Meet the Physician

My interest in healthcare began as a child. The youngest daughter of an MD in a small town in Michigan. Fascinated with my father’s work, I accompanied him on house calls and would hang out in his office looking through medical books or just immersing myself in the experience of a medical practice.

The love of science, my interest in medicine and a passion for wanting to help others took root at that time and continued to grow through the years.

The path to this point was far from direct. I had detours into other careers, raised 3 sons and later single-parented. Rather than viewing these as delays or time lost, I consider all of these experiences as part of my education and training that enrich and inform my skills and practice as a clinician. I bring the same dedication, perseverance, and commitment that carried me through this journey to my practice at Balanced Wellness and care for you.

My primary goal is to tap into your body’s natural ability to heal itself and help you find balance and wellness through acupuncture, osteopathic manipulation, teaching mind-body medicine self care skills and counseling regarding healthy diet and lifestyle. To be clear, there is definitely a time and place for medications, tests, procedures and modern, conventional medicine. It is important to also have a primacy care provider with whom to seek care when those things are needed. I may recommend you see your PCP or other specialists if I assess your health condition to be beyond the scope of my integrative mind-body medicine practice.

This also holds true for my training and background as a clinical social worker. I have continued to wear that hat in some respects, especially in understanding and working with the psychological, emotional and social interplay of illness, chronic pain and the process of finding healing and wellness. However, I am not practicing as a social worker or clinical therapist. Instead, I do work with individuals and small groups to facilitate learning and applying powerful Mind-Body Medicine skills that can help them better manage stress, chronic pain, anxiety and depression, and improve their overall mental, emotional and physical wellness.

I look forward to helping you in your journey toward health, well-being, and balance in all things.

Yours in health,

Dr. Sue Castleman
